Completion of Soy Source Tanks Using NSSC’s High Performance Stainless Steel

2011/10/03

Nippon Steel & Sumikin Stainless Steel Corporation (NSSC) received an order for Super Stainless Steel and Interstitial Ferritic Stainless Steel for soy source fermenting tanks from Oita Soy Source Cooperative. The high-corrosion-resistant performance against 17% salinity is the key to award, and the total volume is approximate 80 metric tons on this project. This is the first use of Super Stainless Steel for whole body of the tank for soy source fermenting process in Japan.

Project
 Customer:  Oita Soy Source Cooperative
 Location: Usuki City, Oita Prefecture, Japan
 Date of Completion: August 30th, 2011
 Detail: 10 of Soy Source Fermenting Tank
        * Outside Diameter 5m x Height 14m, Empty weight 14tons
        * Volume per tank corresponding to annual consumption for 28,000 people in Japan

Items
1) NSSC®270:Tank-body and Water-cooling-jacket 70tons
            Chemical-comp 20Cr-18Ni-6Mo-0.7Cu-0.2N-LC WT 2.0~6.0mm
2) NSSC®180 Color Stainless Steel:Racking 6tons
            Chemical-comp 19Cr-0.4Cu-0.4Nb-LC,N WT 0.3mm

Better thermal efficiency mainly caused by the dimple surface of the steel on the jacket can bring energy-saving operation and easier quality control on its important processes such as decomposing, fermenting and aging to yield good unrefined soy source. Also the tank can dramatically improve the productivity by shortening the aging lead-time to almost 3 months instead of almost 2 years that conventional wooden type takes.
